Young People/Problems & Pain

by Fulton Street

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Fulton Street are an exhilarating 7-piece band making waves in Melbourne’s rich soul music scene. Led by commanding vocalist, Shannen Wick and featuring a rock solid rhythm section and dynamic horns, Fulton Street combines the classic elements of soul and R&B with magnetic energy to create an irresistible sound.

Fulton Street’s new material is mixed, produced and mastered by drummer/producer Ivan 'Choi' Khatchoyan. Ivan has been prominent in Melbourne’s soul music community for years now, having worked with well-known local artists including Vida-Sunshyne, Candice Monique. Most notably, Ivan is part of Cookin' On 3 Burners, the Australian trio who are riding high with one of 2016’s biggest hits, 'This Girl' (Kungs vs Cookin' On 3 Burners).

    ‘Young People' -
Fulton’s Street’s powerful debut single, 'Young People,' is a high energy, catchy anthem with an addictive hook. Based on Shannen's struggle to get a foot into the workforce post-university, this gritty track is a slap in the face for society. As she channels her frustrations, Shannen's vocals, along with that of a soulful choir, soar over punchy horn lines to deliver a powerful message.

    ‘Problems & Pain' -
'Problems & Pain', the B side to ‘Young People,’ stays in the same vein with disappointment at the current state of the world. Driven by a killer guitar line and dynamic horns, this predominantly instrumental track keeps its groove tight before taking the message home with a commanding call to action from the lead singer.

Young People 04:34
[Verse] For seventeen years, I worked hard I put my faith in a system that just don’t work Young people, they say, you gotta get experience But how you gonna get experience when they won’t even look your way? [Chorus] Wish that I could stick it to the man Go against any sort of plan now But if I did, I wouldn’t stand a chance Living all alone, I ain’t got no one Don’t tell me I’m not trying He knows how hard I’m trying What more can I do… When I got nothing on my side? [Verse] 100, 205 attempts between my sister and I Every time it’s the same old: We’ll get back to your shortly… We never heard back The fear is overwhelming sometimes Try to keep it from messing with my mind I’m thinking about all the things I wanna do And I’m wondering if I’m ever gonna see them through [Chorus] [Bridge] Degrees don’t mean nothing Hit hard with debts we can’t pay I don’t know where I’m going And it scares me to death [What we gonna do bout the young people? What we gonna change for the young people? Who’s going to stand up for the young people?] X3 [Chorus] [Outro] [What we gonna do bout the young people? What we gonna change for the young people? Who’s going to stand up for the young people?] X6

Can’t seem to stop the endless wars Don’t know why we’re fighting for Brothers and sisters, Put your weapons down now When will our leaders stand up and lead? They using money for guns But not for those in need Don’t know all the answers But we’re done with corruption and injustice Ahhhhh, problems and pain Ahhhhh, we gotta change
