Following the sold out release of their highly anticipated debut album ‘Problems & Pain’, Fulton Street has quickly established themselves as one of Australia’s most eminent soul acts. ‘Told How to Walk’ is the first release from songwriters Shannen Wick and James Stroud's record label, STOIC RECORDS!

    'Told How To Walk' -
Written after witnessing blatant and casual racism aimed at a young indigenous man attending a music festival, ‘Told How to Walk’ recognises the plight of the traditional owners of this land and the discrimination they still face in modern Australia. The raw vocal sound and passionate horn hooks team up in sharp rebuke of Australia’s dark colonial history. The song also acts as a plea for greater respect, leading towards unity between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians moving forward.

    'Real Woman' -
With a heartfelt and dignified new sound, ‘Real Woman’ is a triumphant ode to the strength of women everywhere. Lovingly self-produced by the band, Fulton Street returns to a vintage sound with this classic soul ballad which simmers to an exultant climax at the end – “you don’t know, but you missed out”. ‘Real Woman’ explores the heartache of lost love before coming to the empowering conclusion that true worth can only be defined by one's self.

lyrics

[Verse]
Boy finds the gates
But he’s told turn around
Hey, there are rules here
No bare feet on the ground
I watched on too stunned to make a move
What I should have done was something to help you

[Pre-chorus]
And he’s told how to walk on his
Told how to walk on his
Told how to walk on his own land
Yes, he’s one with the earth
But he’s told how to walk
He’s told (repeated)

[Chorus]
I should have helped you
But I just stood and watched

[Verse]
Now I know she had a job to do
But I find that's no excuse
Cause it takes nothing
To be kind, to show love
None of which she showed to you
I watched on too stunned to make a move
What I should have done was something to help you

[Pre-chorus]

[Chorus]
What right did she have to take your freedom from you? (repeated)

[Bridge]
Talking at you
Talking down to you
Talking bout your rights
I should’ve fought the fight for you (repeated)

[Outro]
